STYLECREEPER: What to steal from your boyfriends wardrobe

Published on STYLECREEPER.com on 9/07/13

My boyfriend is awesome, and since I worked for a major men’s fashion store for a year, has an awesome wardrobe to boot. A wardrobe that has worn in tees, soft flannel shirts, oversized jackets, and converse sneakers – everything that I wish I had in my wardrobe! So ladies, open up your man’s wardrobe (or floor-drobe) and “borrow” his most comfy, coolest clothes, and make them work for you too.

There is nothing like slipping an oversized suit jacket on over a cocktail dress after a fancy night out. Its sexy – the awesome mix of ultra feminine and ultra masculine, enveloped in the smells of that special someone’s cologne. But for everyday, there are a few key pieces you can add to your look to get that same androgynous combo, without looking like your a sloppy joe in your dad’s clothes.

The fail-safe? His worn white t-shirt. Team it with a pair of leather pants or leggings, tuck it into skinny jeans, and throw on a statement necklace. Never wear with baggy pants – unless you’re lounging around your house. And make sure it’s clean!

Another great piece to steal is his button-down shirt – guys have an abundance of shirts, from fancy cotton, to soft, worn in flannels. Wear his white shirt buttoned right up, with relaxed pants or a high-waisted skirt, alternatively, opt for the more relaxed throw-on, undone look. Either way, there is a shirt in his wardrobe that will work! (For extra fun factor – steal his bow tie too!)

The boyfriend jean is a little more tricky, since the sizing is a lot more important. There is no harm in trying, but generally finding a pair of jeans that fit your boyfriend perfectly, and then fit you in that cool, boyfriend jean kind of way, is a tad unlikely. Oh well, might as well buy some for yourself! My pick is the extensive range of boyfriend jeans in Topshop, or authentic ones in Topman, otherwise my dream pair from Nobody!
