Get ready ladies and gents, Melbourne Spring Fashion week is almost upon us.
So everyone knows us Melbourne folk are Australia’s golden children of fashion. We have nailed black on black, we are layering pros, and man, do we know how to throw a fashion week. This year is no different, with runways exihibiting fashion giants to fashion’s freshest faces, workshops, parties, and free things (YAY!), take out those diaries and start buying those tickets.
Here are my picks of the best events of MSFW:
Designer Runway #2: Alice McCall, LIFEwithBird, Manning Cartell and more…
I have been to two runways showcasing these three fashion heavyweights, and I can promise you they have never disappointed. Beautiful garments will swish down the runway constructed at Melbourne Town Hall, which adds an extra touch of elegance and old world glamour to the fresh new threads.
Sept 4th 6:30 – 7:30/8:30 – 9:30 $35 balcony $45 floor Town Hall
Designer Runway #4: Above., Alpha 60, Gorman and more…
If you’re looking for quirky, cool, too-indie-to-be-indie styling, this is the show for you. Think crazy colour palettes, new textures, and just downright cool things for cool people. Imagine these clothes on a runway, stomping along to some awesome tunes, and you’ll thank me in the morning.
Sept 6th 6:30 – 7:30/8:30 – 9:30 $35 balcony $45 floor Town Hall
Think you need an injection of summer love to get you through the last woolly months of winter? Get your frozen ass down to the MSFW Resort runway, showcasing swimwear and resort-wear fitting for a Beverly Hills housewife. With a promise of both Australian and international designs being paraded down the catwalk, what could be better?
Sept 7th 7:00 – 8:00 $35 balcony $45 floor Town Hall
FREE RUNWAYS (yes thats right, FREE!)
HUB RUNWAY #1: David Jones
Grab a seat at David Jones’ free runway that will be showing off their best frocks to wear to the Melbourne Cup. If you’re heading to the races, have a special event in the diary, or (like me) just like buying pretty dresses, head down early to score a seat!
Sept 2nd 12:00 – 12:30/1:00 – 1:30 FREE City Square
HUB RUNWAY #3: Wittner
As a shoe addict, it is refreshing to finally see a fashion show that really gives footwear some love. And who better to show this love than Wittner. Presenting their Spring/Summer range to the public, expect to find your go-to pair for the holidays!
Sept 3rd 5:30 – 6:00/6:30 – 7:00 FREE City Square
We couldn’t forget all our Melbourne boys! This free runway is dedicated to you – in all your chino wearing, loafer walking glory. Take a seat, drink some cider (Kopperberg is sponsoring the event!), and watch as some equally goodlooking lads stroll down the runway in threads by Jack London, Saxony, Autonomy and many more.
Sept 5th 6:30 – 7:00/8:30 – 9:00 FREE City Square
If you’re a fashion enthusiast, and you can only make it to one show for the week, my pick would be one of these two. I have been to many a runway in my day, but nothing compares to an event showcasing fashion student’s work. They will blow your mind with their technique and creativity – and it always feels awesome when you discover the next big thing first!
Student Runway #1 (RMIT): Sept 1st 6:00 – 7:30 $35 balcony $45 floor Town Hall
Student Runway #2: Sept 1st 8:00 – 9:30 $35 balcony $45 floor Town Hall
This is a chance for the public to see fashion student’s work up close and personal. Pieces that will feature in the student runways throughout fashion week will be on show, gallery-style, so aspiring fashion designers, and fashion lovers alike can oohh and aahh at all the hard work these creative geniuses have put into their work.
AUG 31st – Sept 8th Mon-Tue 10 – 5, Wed-Sun 10 -10 FREE Town Hall
New Designer Market
This will be my favourite day of the festival – a chance where I can go shopping! Melbourne has so many great up and coming designers, selling clothing, jewellery, shoes and other knick-knacks. Here is your chance to show your appreciation, and pick up something new, unique, and made with love.
Sept 8th 10:00 – 4:00 FREE City Square
