Yesterday, Brooklyn hosted the MTV Video Awards, and it was one of the most fabulous/terrifying to date. No, I’m not going to talk about Miley Cyrus’s tongue, or her corruption of everyone under the age of 16 – I’m going to talk about the best and worst dressed on the night (and maybe a little about my lover Justin Timberlake, just because I feel like he’s owed a mention).
Taylor Swift (dressed in Herve Leger)
She nails the old school glamour look, with a touch of sex appeal with the plunging neckline. Extra points for her dancing along to JT, and for thanking her ex for breaking up with her so she could write a winning song.
Ciara (dressed in Givenchy)
This dress comes from my favourite fashion collection of all time – Givenchy’s A/W 2010/2011 Haute Couture Show (click the link and you will understand) – and Ciara does it justice. Maybe it belongs more on a runway than the MTV carpet, but oh well, artwork like this deserves to be shown to the world.
Selena Gomez (dressed in Versace)
Selena has made it on both hit and miss lists this year, but with a dress that is a little more risky than the Disney star has worn before, her VMA outfit is definitely a hit. I think the intricacy on the bodice makes the dress, and it fits her like a glove.
Lil Kim is the Queen of the worst dress list. Don’t believe me, take a look. Her outfit choice this year is just as bad, and was so tight it was hard for her to move. Surprisingly (or not), I can’t find anyone who will own up for making it.
What a shame! Rhi Rhi turned up in an outfit resembling something I would wear to bed. We understand she didn’t receive or present an award, but damn, sitting in the crowd in a white singlet top while girls like T Swift are in ball gowns – pick up your game Rhi Rhi! (P.S. Will Smith, with his magical agelessness, was cool enough to bring his kids along – take a look at their faces while Miley twerked).
Gaga, we get your crazy, and we love you for it. If you want to come on stage with a square on your head with your crazy eyes and pearls, you have our blessing. If you want to sit in the audience in a shell bra and thong as a modern Birth of Venus, we will be glad we are not sitting next to you, but give you a pat on the back. But once you set a standard like that crazy ass meat dress, proving you can push the boundaries time and time again, you can’t disappoint. With Gaga’s red carpet look, she did disappoint me a lot! It was just an ugly looking dress, no crazy foods, heels, bubbles – nothing!
What did you think? Agree? Disagree? Let me know!
For a perfect finish to the article, here’s Justin Timberlake and NSYNC.
