It’s official. The rain, the fog, the gloom, this can only mean one thing… winter is coming (I know, the Game of Thrones reference is over-used but I had to). Surprisingly, this doesn’t mean we should lock ourselves away and turn to hibernation as a means of getting through these coming dreary months. It means we need to pick ourselves up, slip those slippers into the corner, and buy a damn warm coat!
I am definitely a winter baby. Born in June, I would prefer skiing through powder soft snow than sun-baking on powder soft sand. But more than this, I love, love, LOVE winter fashion! I love the layers, I love the leather, I love tights and boots and COATS (oh my)!
Finding the perfect coat (or several) for the season is always a big task. You want something that will maximise your wardrobe, that goes with everything, and that can transform from day-to-night. Forever an investment piece, here are our to-die-for coats of the season.
Trenches are the masters of versatility – equally perfect with jeans or a ball gown. Their structured fit is flattering on everyone and will never go out of style! Take the Burberry trench for instance, it will always be the pinnacle of the coat world.
Burberry ‘Queensbury’ Trench Coat, $1,625.15, available at Farfetch
Burberry Brit Leather Sleeved Spiked Collar Trench, now $1,525.42, available at my-wardrobe
Saint Laurent Oversized Trench, $4,237.15 from Farfetch
The boyfriend coat is slouchy and unstructured – but by no means sloppy! These woolen beauties will keep you snug as a bug, and look blogger-styled on your commute to your office, or office party.
Kenzo Embroidered Check Jacket, $849.56, available at Farfetch
CAMILLA AND MARC Greyscale Coat, $899, available at Camilla and Marc
Bouchra Jarrar Large Lapel Strap Detail Coat, $3113.67, available at Farfetch
There’s nothing more luxurious than a long-line coat. Gorgeous and floaty, they can immediately add a classy touch to any outfit. Ahh, the things I would do for this Carla Zampatti…..
Carla Zampatti Raven Crepe Croc-Coated Coat, $969, available at David Jones
Adam Lippes Leopard Print Coat, $2852.60, available at Farfetch
Bianco Spender Ink Tweed Spear Coat, $895, available at David Jones
With the high neckline and little to no collar, top coats suit any purpose. Taking on a triangle shape, they hide all the added winter weight we all try to avoid (I swear it’s just an extra thick knit). They’re perfect to throw over your comfy leggings when you need to run down the shops to buy some much needed bread and milk (ahum, and chocolate of course).
